El Pretexto Labor Day Weekend Culinary Bootcamp will allow you to have a splendid time by slowing down and immersing yourself in the diverse food culture of Puerto Rico. This is an all-inclusive weekend where you'll experience hands-on cooking classes, meet top chefs and traditional home cooks, delight in classic food experiences, and enjoy the great weather of Cayey’s mountains.   • Welcome & Arrival after midday: Settle into your private accommodations.

  • Evening: Fish Handling Class with Chef Jose Carles - Learn expert techniques for preparing and cooking fresh seafood, guided by a renowned local chef.

Saturday: From Classic Dish to A Taste of Local Cheeses

  • Morning: Enjoy a delicious farm-to-table breakfast.

  • Late Morning/Midday: Pastelada Class with Chef Luis Cabrero - Master the process of making pasteles, a very cultural Puerto Rican dish, from scratch. Lunch showcasing your delicious creation.

  • Early Evening: Sunset Charcuterie Class - Learn the art of crafting a beautiful and delicious charcuterie board featuring local Puerto Rican cheeses, fruits, and curated imported meats.

Sunday: Puerto Rican Flavor Foundations

  • Morning: Enjoy a delicious farm-to-table breakfast.

  • Late Morning/Midday: Viandas (root vegetables) Class - Discover the flavor profiles of our local viandas, a staple of Puerto Rican cuisine. We will learn how to peel and season them correctly. We will prepare them in three ways: chips, mash, and sanchocho.

  • Early Evening: Sofrito Class - Uncover the secrets to the perfect sofrito, the aromatic base of countless Puerto Rican dishes.

Monday: Farewell & Future Flavors

  • Morning: Enjoy a final Farm-to-table breakfast.

  • Departure: Depart with new culinary skills, cherished memories, and a deeper connection to Puerto Rican culture.

Este Bootcamp Culinario de El Pretexto durante el fin de semana del Día del Trabajo te permitirá pasar un fin de semana largo genial al bajar el ritmo e integrarte en la diversa cultura, gastronomía y tradiciones de Puerto Rico. Conectarás con nuestra comunidad local, con otros viajeros y, lo más importante, contigo mismo. Disfrutarás de clases prácticas de cocina, conocerás a chefs destacados y cocineras tradicionales, te deleitarás con experiencias gastronómicas clásicas y saborearás excelentes vinos. Prometemos que te alegrarás de habernos acompañado.

¿Qué incluye tu experiencia?

  • Clases Culinarias Íntimas: Sumérgete en la cocina puertorriqueña con sesiones especializadas.

  • Hospedaje: Villa con baño privado por tres noches.

Viernes: Secretos del Mar y Bienvenida

Bienvenida y llegada (después del mediodía): Instálate en tu alojamiento privado.
Tarde:Clase de Manejo de Pescado con el Chef José Carles – Aprende técnicas expertas para preparar y cocinar mariscos frescos, guiado por un reconocido chef local.

Sábado: De Plato Clásico a Sabores de Quesos Locales

Mañana: Disfruta de un delicioso desayuno de la finca a la mesa.
Mediodía:Clase de Pastelada con el Chef Luis Cabrero – Domina el proceso de hacer pasteles desde cero, uno de los platos más emblemáticos de Puerto Rico. Almuerzo con tu deliciosa creación.
Temprano en la tarde:Clase de Charcutería al Atardecer – Aprende el arte de crear una tabla de charcutería hermosa y deliciosa con quesos locales puertorriqueños, frutas y embutidos importados seleccionados.

Domingo: Fundamentos del Sabor Puertorriqueño

Mañana: Disfruta de un delicioso desayuno de la finca a la mesa.
Mediodía:Clase de Viandas (raíces y tubérculos) – Descubre los perfiles de sabor de nuestras viandas locales, un pilar de la cocina puertorriqueña. Aprenderemos a pelarlas, sazonarlas y prepararlas de tres maneras: chips, majadas y sancocho.
Temprano en la tarde:Clase de Sofrito – Descubre los secretos para lograr el sofrito perfecto, la base aromática de innumerables platos puertorriqueños.

Lunes: Despedida y Sabores del Futuro

Mañana: Disfruta de un último desayuno de la finca a la mesa.
Salida: Parte con nuevas destrezas culinarias, recuerdos valiosos y una conexión más profunda con la cultura puertorriqueña.

Flights are to be arranged by each guest. It is highly recommended to plan your arrival for Thursday night (an extra night could be arranged for an extra fee or you could stay a night in San Juan) or Friday morning. To depart on Monday, we recommend a mid-afternoon flight.


El Pretexto is an adult-only venue. Bringing kids under 18 and pets to this venue is not allowed.

A 7% Tourism tax is not included in the total cost of the experience and will be charged along with the balance.

Tips protocol:
Our drivers’ tips are already paid.
Chefs, assistants, and guides are well-paid, but if you decide to tip, feel free to do so directly or to let us know, and we can share the tip with all of them or to whom you prefer.

We reserve the right of admission and permanence in our space.

Our cancellation policy:

  • Payment reimbursement will only occur if canceled 30 days before the beginning of the experience. Why? By this time, we have already completed the reservations, down payments, and logistics coordination, and we look forward to your presence. If something unexpected happens, please let us know promptly. Check if a family member or friend can take your place, as we will do our best to find someone to buy your spaces, but we cannot guarantee it.

  • We reserve the right to cancel or postpone this event at any time. It is very unlikely that this will happen, but if the time comes, we will reimburse 100% of your deposit.

  • If a global crisis or severe weather event occurs, such as a pandemic, storm, or hurricane, we will reimburse 100%.

  • Please allow up to 60 days for any reimbursement.
